Covenant Christian Academy of Chicago

Vision Statement

We are school community in Chicago that serves households where Jesus Christ is Lord.  We wish to further the work that parents accomplish in their homes in teaching their children to love God with all their hearts, souls, minds and strength.  We have covenanted together to give our children an education that is Christian, Reformed, and Classical.

We are people of Covenant.  As Abraham placed his faith in the living God two thousand years before Christ, we place our faith in this same God two thousand years after Christ=s work has been accomplished.  Covenant is key to understanding the continuity of God’s work of redemption throughout history.  Covenant is also a way of understanding our relationship with one another.  Parents sign a covenant with the school to trust and support the school.  The board and staff covenant to educate children to the fullest extent allowed by our resources.

We are committed to distinctively Christian education.  We aim to graduate young men and women who are capable of evaluating their entire range of experience in the light of the Bible; and who do so with eagerness in joyful submission to God. We aim to find them well prepared in all situations, able to formulate obedient and godly responses to their circumstances. We desire that they be well equipped for service in God=s kingdom, understanding their role to serve Him and give Him glory.

We are also committed to a Reformed education which teaches children the Biblical truths of creation, fall, redemption, and new creation.  All things were created by God and are therefore under God’s Law and ordered by that law.  All of creation is fallen and there is no hope of salvation apart from God’s gracious work.  All that we need for salvation was provided by Jesus Christ, his sinless life and his death on the cross for our sins.  God is working out his Redemptive purposes in this world, and His people are part of that work.  Our students are challenged to discover their gifts and talents for use in God’s world.  We recognize that we are educating them for an eternity of work in his kingdom.

Finally, we are committed to a Classical education.  The classical methodology of the Trivium organizes the school’s work.  Children in the grammar stage (grades K-6) experience God’s creation and learn facts about God’s world.  During the dialectic stage (grades 7-8), students learn more analytic thinking, interpretation and critique.  We pray that in the Lord’s time we will be able to begin a high school so that education can continue into the rhetoric stage.  We are also committed to teaching children the heritage of Western civilization.

We desire to see this vision accomplished by staff who love their students and their subjects and are diligent in their work and gifted in teaching.  We as a community desire to demonstrate godliness in all our relationships.  We pray that we all may be mature in Christ, growing in the knowledge of God, and leading our children in their walk with the Lord.
